How to access, stream, share and download your newly converted digital files

When you opt to have your converted files provided via an online download, we’ll upload them to our DropBox cloud storage and send an access link to your email which looks like this. The access link will take you to a new webpage where you can stream and download your files. You can forward this link onto anyone you want to have access to your files.

First click the link to open your files in a new webpage, in this window, you will see a preview of all your files. You can download all your files at once by clicking the download button found at the top right corner of the page.

To view a single video, simply click on the thumbnail of the file you would like to open. From here you can stream the video (like on youtube) or download it individually by clicking the download button. You can also add comments to files in the right hand pane. To go back, click the top left button.

Unzipping Files
If you have downloaded all your files at once, these will download in a single compressed zip file. To access the videos, you need to extract them onto your computer. Below are the different methods to do this on windows or Mac.

Windows
To extract all the files from a zipped folder, do the following:

  • Right-click the compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Select Extract All from the menu.
  • By default, the compressed files will extract in the same location as the zipped folder, but you can click the Browse button to select an alternative location.
  • Press Extract to begin extracting the files

Mac

  1. Double click the zipped file.
  2. The file will automatically be decompressed by Archive Utility into the same folder the compressed file is in.
  3. Access the extracted files by clicking the appropriate icons.

If you’re trying to decide between converting to DVD or MP4, or you don’t know what an MP4 file is, here’s some info to help you out!

What is MP4?

MP4 is the most common type of video file, which can be played back on most devices such as your computer, TV, phone or tablet. A MP4 file works like any other file and can be copied and pasted from one storage device to another. This means you can easily back up and create digital copies of your converted videos, as well as being able to edit them and share them online. We can provide MP4 files either on a memory stick or on the cloud.

Memory Stick and Online Download

We can provide MP4 files either on a memory stick, or hosted on the cloud, both of which contain exactly the same files. With memory stick you get back all your videos on one memory stick, which you can use your computer or TV. With online download we would upload all the video files to our cloud and share an access link by email.

DVD

You can play our DVD’s on DVD players or computer disc drives. The DVDs will automatically play when inserted into a DVD player. With videotape and cine transfers we create one DVD per tape and with photo transfers all the photos will come back on a single DVD. If a video tape is longer than 3 hours, we will split the video onto multiple DVDs at no additional cost. The main advantage of converting to DVD is that it is very easy to play, but you cannot easily edit or back up your videos in this format.

Still Unsure?

If you struggle with technology and are familiar with playing DVD’s, then DVD is the format to convert to. If you want a future proof format that is far more flexible and secure then MP4 is the way to go. In most cases we highly recommend converting to MP4.
